Advanced privacy features include the ability to disable read markers (double tick) and typing notifications on per-user basis. In addition to point-to-point encryption using Transport Layer Security (TLS), it fully supports end-to-end encryption using OMEMO and OpenPGP protocols for messages and file transfers in direct chats and groups. Functionality ĭino focuses on providing a modern XMPP experience while emphasizing user privacy.
In February 2019, it was added to Fedora and FreeBSD Ports. ĭino was added to the testing distribution of Debian by February 2018 and was included in Ubuntu 18.04 release in April 2018. Since 2017, Dino participates as a project in the Google Summer of Code program (under umbrella of Conversations, GNOME and XMPP Standards Foundation) and as a result received contributions from four students. The first official stable release (Version 0.1.0) was on Jan 29, 2020. On March 2, 2017, first code was submitted to the public repository on GitHub. The development of Dino was started in 2016 by a small group of open-source developers.
